In June 2015, I was looking for a challenge. I wanted to start my journey towards being in the best shape of my life. At the same time, I wanted to be a part of a fitness community full of like-minded people. I found the community with Beachbody and a fitness program called the 21 Day Fix. The program is easy to follow and is set up for your success...as long as you put in the work. Included is a color coded food plan so you can eat real, clean food and have your cake too. Pancakes with homemade raspberry jam from FIXATE Meal planning becomes your best friend. Since the servings of each colored container in the food plan depends on your weight, it can vary from person to person. For instance, during a day I need to consume three servings of carbohydrates (yellow), four servings of vegetables (green), three servings of fruit (purple) and so on. I've never struggled with eating my veggies. I love them! So I actually end up consuming more than my servings tell me. When I was little, my mom would joke that I wasn't her daughter because I never wanted ice cream or any dessert before dinner. I've never been a big sweet person until recently. I struggle meeting my fruit requirement daily. If given the choice between an apple or watermelon over grape tomatoes or cucumber, I'd choose the latter. I love the fruit options, but veggies just always appealed to me better. Meal planning allows me to consume all food categories so I get all the nutrients I need. There's nothing better than eating a clean diet where you aren't starving yourself. (I'll be going into meal planning more in another post.) Along with the meal plan, there is a fitness schedule to follow. What is so wonderful about this program? You workout for only thirty minutes and from the comfort of your home. I've never been a huge gym enthusiast. I'd always prefer taking dance or fitness classes or workout out with a DVD at home. What I love about the personal trainer, Autumn Calabrese, of the 21 Day Fix program is that she pushes you by being positive and encouraging. There is always a modifier, which I follow a lot. Sometimes I break it down further for myself. Fitness is about getting yourself to the healthiest version of you. It's not about starving or depriving yourself. It's about doing what you can. Once you start to see improvement, you can increase the challenge. This is me after increasing my weights from 3 lbs to 5 lbs. I love the variety of the workouts. Every day of the seven different workouts keeps you motivated and challenged. Since I became involved with Beachbody, I have not completed a program. I always start strong. Then I get the fitness bug and get distracted. My mom enjoys calling me Dug because of how easily distracted I get. (Dug as in the dog from the Disney movie Up. He always gets distracted by imaginary, "Squirrel!") Multiple times I have completed ten days of the 21 Day Fix before transitioning to running, yoga, circuit training or a new dance fitness program called Cize. Due to stress, around the end of August 2015 I gained about ten pounds. I was in a funk where I wasn't exercising everyday I'd exercise maybe three days a week then eat junk. I got tired of going into that cycle of bad habits. Every time I'm stressed out, I put myself on the back burner. I don't take care of myself so I can put more energy into whatever I deem more important. In October 2015, I made a decision to make myself more accountable and to put a stop to my rollercoaster. I became a Cize Live certified instructor. I'm aiming to start teaching soon. Back in June 2015, I became a Beachbody coach. All that means is that I provide support, encouragement and assistance to you while you reach for your health and fitness goals. It wasn't until October 2015 that I found the drive behind my motivation. I started eating healthy again and working out more. I lost eleven pounds. We are human and in life we will struggle and have challenges once in a while. The important thing is that we get back up and keep moving forward.
I am starting my new year's resolutions early by starting a new Beachbody program before January 1. I'm determined to beat the odds and get in control of my health.
